You should prime the area first. Oil paints peel the area, if it is not primed properly. This will happen, if base coat is oil based. You should clean the area before priming. After this, apply primer. Primer is bought from home improvement store. It can be applied with spray or with brush.  If you want to paint with dark color, make the primer tinted first.

Water does not soak on oil paint wall as it does with latex paint. Oil paints bubble during the painting. Do not shake oil based paints. You can stir the paint. Use a single coat instead of many.  Oil paint takes a longer time to dry than latex paint. There should be lot of ventilation during drying period.
Oil based products are generally toxic. You must take precaution to dump them. Many projects benefit from oil based projects.

Trim—Oil paints are used to paint indoor trim such as bead board, crown molding, chair rails, etc. They are more resistant to wear and tear than latex paints. Oil paints are also easy to clean.

Doors- doors in the interior use oil paints.  You can easily clean the fingerprints. Outside door is painted with oil paint.

Decorating projects—if you want to paint shelves or raw wood, use oil paints. You need proper preparation. You should sand or prime raw wood before using oil paint. You must dry the primer completely before using oil paint. This gives a good coverage.

Exterior - Some outside projects need oil painting. These paints are good for trims around windows and around house.

Metal— oil paints are good for metal-based projects. It should be applied on iron after priming.
