How To Replace The Screens In Your Windows
Window screens are necessary for living. Screens prevent intruders from coming  inside. Screens are made up of delicate material. They need repair and maintenance. They also need to be replaced at intervals.  It is easy to repair and replace screens. It requires little elbow grease. You should replace screens in your windows carefully.

We need the following material–

screen patches
scissors
household cement
screen rolling tool
razor knife
square
1×2 and 1×4 stock- this is used to stretch new screening
stapler
brads
wood putty

Screen repairs-If the hole on screen is less than three inches in diameter, you can repair it. It is difficult to patch plastic screens. They should be totally replaced. There is no need to replace fiberglass screens. It is easy to patch up and repair metal screens.

1] Measure hole and purchase ready to use patches. You can also cut patches from  new screens. For small holes the diameter of the patch should be half an inch longer  than the hole. Large holes require replacement patches of a large diameter.

2] Stands can be bent by hand. Use long nosed pliers. Household cement should be applied on the end of the patches  Plastic patches need household cement on patch ends. These ends should be first woven to screen.

Screen replacement-

You can replace screens in metal and wooden frames.  It is easy to replacea  metal frame screen.

Method of Replacing screens in a metal frame:

1] First remove the screen along with the frame from the window. Now put in on hard flat surface. The surface should be able to support the whole frame.

2] Remove the rubber edging from the screen. If it cannot be reused then measure and cut fresh rubber edging as per the size required. t.

3] Remove  the old and damaged screen.

4] Use old screen to measure the size for the new screen.. Leave a little excess screen from the sides when cutting out the new screen.

5] Tighten the screen by using a  screen rolling tool. Insert rubber edging into the grooves.

6] Track the material to the frame.

7] Trim off excess  material with a razor knife.  Now fix your new screen on to the window.

Method of replacing the screen in a wood frame:

This is a very challenging process.

1] Start at center of strip molding and work towards the ends.

2] In wood frames the screen should be fixed in a tight manner.. This is done by using wedges.

3] Cut new screen from the  replacement roll.

4] Staple screening across the top edge of frame.

5] Put wedges between the cleat and the screen frame.

6] After every few inches staple the screen.

7] Trim off the extra screening.

8] Tightly staple the complete screen.

Screens on your windows are essential for day to day protection. They protect you from the wind and the rain. They let the sun come in. You should take care of screens.
